In the Mathematics Department we aim to shape our students into problem solvers, logical thinkers and lifelong mathematicians through a variety of approaches to teaching and learning that will engage, motivate and inspire.
The Mathematics curriculum blends and balances the key content areas of Number, Algebra, Ratio and Proportion, Geometry and Measure, Probability and Statistics. Through developing proficiency in the skills of understanding; fluency; problem solving and reasoning our students explore and learn mathematically and develop the skills required to support other subjects and higher levels of mathematics. Confidence is key in maths and we want our students to respond positively and enjoy the challenge of unfamiliar maths problems and to develop a resilience that will stand them in good stead in all areas of their future lives.
We hope that our students leave us with, not only the skills and knowledge to work and participate in the community they live in, but also a fascination for number and ideas like infinity, relationships between variables, patterns and order as well as for a sense of mystery and space.
