Students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 are using Accelerated Reader to follow their Reading Routes. In their route, students are reading a range of books across six key genres.

Students have their own book and bookmark which they use in form time to read for 15 minutes alongside 30 minutes of reading in English as well as their own independent reading.

Progress in reading is based upon a ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development) code. The ZPD identifies books at the right level to provide optimal reading challenge for all. This is initially created through the STAR testing system. Our students completed their first test at the start of the year which produced a baseline and target ZPD range. Students can move through the range by reading a book and then completing a quiz at the end of the book.

Students can complete as many reading quizzes and vocabulary quizzes as they want, and we have rewards and celebrations for all students who complete their routes and for forms who have learnt the most words!

Students will have four STAR tests throughout the year which will be shared through the AMD and parent/carer reports in Autumn, Spring and Summer.
